Art making and other creative processes are moments of presence and discovery.
Art therapy has the potential to provide insights in response to discoveries that reflect moments of your history or experiencing. A deeper understanding may be gathered as a result.
Understanding and validation of your experience by yourself and a trusted other are key components of connection and healing. Art therapy guided by a trained art therapist provides a safe foundation to engage in creative processes that can deepen connection and enhance your wellbeing.
It can be of benefit to those who wish to
find ways to alleviate stress and anxiety
deepen self awareness
identify and resolve patterns of behaviour and relationships that no longer serve you including substance use and self harm
strengthen interpersonal relationships
repair and heal from trauma
find a holding space for serious illness including palliative care
find new ways of being with grief and bereavement
Art therapy requires no art making experience.
I invite you to be curious and open in response to your art making and be with it, as I will, without judgement.
I do not interpret or analyze your representations or yourself. Any meaning making of your experience belongs to you and you alone. I use the MIECAT form of Inquiry as a basis for our sessions which is a multimodal approach to working with others and responding to the experiences around us.
All sessions are confidential and adapted to your needs, availability and preference of materials.
Art Therapy is inclusive and suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Many of the components of art therapy are body based, they do not require cognitive integration or thinking to be therapeutic.
