Art therapy for all ages and abilities

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy provided by qualified art therapists. Art therapists are trained mental health practitioners who combine psychological processes with art making and other creative modalities in the therapeutic space.

Art therapy has the potential to validate moments of your history or experiencing. A deeper understanding may be gathered as a result. Understanding and validation of your experience by yourself and a trusted other are key components of connection and healing.

You do not need art making experience to engage in art therapy.

Art therapy is suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

There are many benefits of art therapy and reasons why this type of therapy might work for you or someone you know.

Art therapy helps trauma repair

The effects of trauma are pervasive and often unable to be verbalised. Sensorimotor art making is recognised by leading psychiatrists, clinicians and trauma specialists as having the capacity to reconnect body with mind to aid healing from trauma.

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way, things I had no words for ”

—Georgia O’Keeffe
